Exploring the Art of Color Selection: Choosing Hand Dyed Yarn Colors that Reflect Your Style

Today, in this blog post, I want to delve into the topic of selecting colors when purchasing hand dyed yarn. Do you find yourself naturally drawn to specific colors? Are there colors that you enjoy looking at but don't necessarily like wearing? Have you ever undergone a color analysis?

With the myriad of color options, making an informed choice can be challenging.

Mindfulness - A good place to start

These questions hold even more significance as we strive to be more mindful of our spending habits and make wise financial decisions. I'm assuming when you purchase yarn, you want to make sure that you use it to create something beautiful that you will cherish and wear for years to come. Therefore, exploring the colors that we are most likely to wear seems like a reasonable pursuit.

An Investment in our Community

For me personally, I believe that this decision goes beyond financial considerations. Within the fiber community, there is a strong inclination to value resource stewardship and actively seek out textiles that are environmentally responsible. There is also a growing interest in reducing waste and supporting local shepherds, fiber mills, and independent yarn dyers.

"Natural fibers like wool, cotton, alpaca, and flax linen can be grown and raised in ways that maximize the drawdown of carbon from the atmosphere to help restore ecosystem health and stabilize our climate. " – Fibershed

A Personal Journey

While I am by no means an expert, I am eager to learn more about this topic and I invite you to join me on this journey. I would love to hear your thoughts and input as well. My hope is that over the next few months, we can engage in a conversation about textiles, thoughtfully curating our wardrobes, and selecting colors that make us look and feel our best.

Foundational Neutrals

In the next episode, I would like to explore neutrals, the foundation of our wardrobe. Do you have one or two go-to neutral colors? Perhaps white, cream, grey, navy, or black? All of these can serve as neutrals and play a crucial role in creating a versatile wardrobe. They are the unsung heroes that seamlessly blend with any outfit, allowing other colors to shine or simply exuding an understated elegance on their own. You can see our current selection of neutral colorways in our Essentials collection.

Choosing Colors to Curate a Handmade Wardrobe

Thanks for joining me on this journey of color exploration, and I hope you will continue to follow along in the months ahead. Please leave a comment and let me know what your preferred neutrals are.
