The Disappearing Act of My Knitting Mojo

My knitting mojo has been missing for months. I’m not exactly sure what made it run off, but it was definitely gone. I had no interest in picking up any of my WIPs, looking at yarn, planning projects, or even admiring other people’s work. It had completely abandoned me.
Trying (and Failing) to Lure It Back
I tried everything I could think of to coax it back. I put aside my never-ending shawl and turned to the quick satisfaction of socks. Still nothing. I glanced at a long-neglected, summer-weight tee and just kept walking. I scrolled endlessly through Ravelry in search of a spark. I even tidied up my stash—desperate times. But none of it worked. Eventually, I gave up and resigned myself to wait for that fickle friend to return on its own terms.
When Your Business Revolves Around Yarn…
When you dye yarn for your business, having no interest in yarn or anything fiber related is problematic. The lack of motivation seeped into everything. My newsletter subscribers can attest to the scarcity of emails of late. Coming up with fresh ideas for my monthly yarn clubs became a serious challenge. It was rough.
How I Got My Mojo Back
And then, just like that, it came back—thanks to a yarn festival I attended this past weekend. Being totally immersed in all things fiber for a weekend brought the love back. I gained inspiration from fellow fiber enthusiasts who gushed over colors, chatted with their friends about planned projects, and who took an interest in my work. I was returned to the roots of the fiber community by a random but impactful chat with a local shepherdess who shared her daily experiences of raising and caring for her flock. I caught up with old friends who radiated enthusiasm. New acquaintances were made discussing all the ways a sock can be personalized.
The Power of Community
It wasn’t just the yarn—it was the people. The community. That’s what brought my mojo back, and I couldn’t be more grateful.
So if your inspiration ever goes MIA, maybe a weekend at a yarn festival is exactly what you need. As for me, I’ve got more WIPs to finish than I care to admit… and a whole list of new projects I’m dying to start.
Oh yeah—my mojo is officially back.
